AXL, a receptor tyrosine kinase within the TAM family that includes TYRO3 and MERTK, plays a crucial role in normal tissues by aiding the clearance of apoptotic cells and moderating TLR-mediated inflammatory responses and natural killer cell activity. Recently, AXL has been identified as a significant driver of immune evasion and drug resistance in cancer cells, leading to the progression of aggressive cancers such as triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), acute myeloid leukemia (AML), non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC), pancreatic cancer, and ovarian cancer. This makes AXL a promising target for the development of new cancer therapies.
